Overview

Step off the beaten path and into the otherworldly landscapes of the Massif du Siroua. Bridging the gap between the towering High Atlas and the arid Anti-Atlas, this ancient volcanic range offers a hiking experience unlike any other in Morocco.

Your journey will take you through dramatic gorges, eroded rock formations, and terraced fields where the precious saffron crocus blooms. You’ll walk through remote Berber villages where time seems to stand still, meeting locals whose warm hospitality is as legendary as the landscape itself. Itinerary

Day 1 Marrakech to Taliouine & Tamlakout

We leave Marrakech early, crossing the Tizi n'Tichka pass. We stop in Taliouine, the heart of saffron country, to visit a cooperative before heading to the village of Tamlakout (1650m) to meet our muleteer team.

Day 2 Tamlakout to Ait Tigga

Our trek begins in earnest. We hike through arid plateaus and seasonal riverbeds, passing ancient granaries (igoudar) perched on cliffs. We camp near the village of Ait Tigga.

Day 3 Ait Tigga to Tajgalte

We ascend through terraced fields and almond groves. The landscape changes as we approach the foot of the Siroua peak, setting up camp at the green pastures of Tajgalte.

Day 4 Summit of Mount Siroua (3304m)

The big day. We climb steadily to the twin peaks of Siroua. The final scramble is optional but rewarding, offering views from the High Atlas to the Sahara. We descend to camp at Iriri.

Day 5 Iriri to Azib n'Ouagane

A relaxing walk through the Amassine valley, known for its dramatic rock formations that look like a giant's playground. We camp near the summer pastures of Azib n'Ouagane.

Day 6 Return to Marrakech

A short morning walk back to the road where our transport awaits. We drive back to Marrakech, arriving in the late afternoon.

Know Before You Go

  • Fitness: Good stamina required. Long walking days.
